History and Overview
Oradell, New Jersey is a small suburb of New York City within Bergen County with a population just under 8,000. The borough was incorporated in 1894 under the original name, Delford. In November of 1920, the borough was officially renamed to Oradell. It was formed during a period known as “Boroughitis” that swept through Bergen County in the late 1800s, when 26 boroughs were created in the year 1894.
It was crafted from parts of Harrington Township, Rochelle Park, and Palisades Township. Oradell is ranked as the seventh best place to live in Bergen County by New Jersey Monthly, as well as the overall 68th best place to live in the state.
Attractions
One of the major places of interest in Oradell is the Atwood-Blauvelt mansion that was built in 1897 on Kinderkamack Road. Purchased at foreclosure in 2013, the new owners have plans to turn the residence into an assisted living facility in the near future. The borough is also home to Wally Schirra, “the first Jerseyman to orbit Earth,” and there is a plaque in his honor in the middle of a small park at the center of town. Oradell was also featured in the movie Taxi starring Jimmy Fallon, where the comedian read a map that showed an uncompleted highway off the Garden State Parkway running through the borough.
Business
On Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, one can find the Great Foods Market & Catering location that is highly regarded for its soups, sandwiches, produce and more. Oradell is also home to numerous acclaimed lawyers and law firms, such as the Murano & Roth, LLC location, also on Kinderkamack Road.
On the same street, one can find a well-reviewed UPS Store. And of course, being less than 15 miles away from NYC, there is a world of opportunity just across the water.
Education
The Oradell Public School District accounts for around 800 students in its one school that serves kindergarten through sixth grade. For seventh through twelfth grade, Oradell shares the district with its neighboring borough River Edge.
The River Dell Regional School District serves just over 600 students for seventh and eighth grade and over 1,000 students for the high school grades of 9-12. Oradell is also home to Bergen Catholic High School, a hotbed of varsity sports that attracts star athletes from across the state. For younger students, Oradell has St. Joseph Elementary School, a Catholic school for Pre-K through eighth grade.
Healthcare
Oradell is home to the ENT and Allergy Associates, a leader in Bergen County for the treatment ear, nose, and throat conditions on Kinderkamack Road. Also on Kinderkamack Road, you will find the Montvale Health Associates – Oradell Office, for general practitioners and doctors of various specializations. For veterinary services, there is the Oradell Animal Hospital on Winters Ave, a treatment center that is open 24 hours a day for emergency situations and general animal and pet health. The borough was formerly home to the Riverdell Hospital, which was located near the current Montvale Health Associates office. The 80-bed hospital was established in 1959 and torn down in 1984 after some controversy.
What is not controversial, however, is the orthodontic care present at The Schulhof Center for Orthodontics at 400 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell. Led by Orthodontist Dr. Adam Schulhof DMD and his expert team, The Schulhof Center is the only office in America that performs 100% lingual braces. Besides maintaining two practices, one in Oradell and a second in New York City, Dr. Schulhof is also a renowned teacher of his craft, lecturing for thousands of doctors worldwide. One can be sure that a visit to The Schulhof Center will produce a better smile, both from improved teeth and satisfaction from the service.
