How Do Clear Aligners Work?

When you visit us to begin Invisalign treatment, Dr. Schulhof will make an impressionless mold of your teeth using the iTero or 3M True Definition scanner. That means you won’t have to bite into trays full of putty. He will use this digital mold to create a series of aligners that are custom-made to fit over your teeth exactly. When the aligner trays have been created, you can take them all home on the same day.

You will wear each pair of aligner trays for two weeks. Then, you will switch out one pair of trays for the next. Each time you switch out a pair of aligners, your teeth will be one step closer to alignment.

You will be advised to wear your aligners for 22 hours each day to ensure that your teeth align properly.

Am I a Good Candidate for Treatment?

During your consultation, Dr. Adam Schulhof will help you determine if Invisalign is right for you. Good candidates for 3M Clarity Aligners are:

  • Patients with mild to moderate crowding
  • Patients with mild to moderate crookedness
  • Patients with mild to moderate spacing issues
  • Patients who once wore braces and have found that their teeth have regressed over time

You might not be a good candidate if your teeth are too small. Perhaps your misalignment is too severe and needs traditional braces instead. Smokers also may not be good candidates for clear aligners because the aligners will stain if you are not willing to quit.

How Much Does Treatment Cost?

3M Clarity Aligner treatment typically costs about the same as treatment with traditional metal braces. This cost usually ranges between $3,500 up to $8,000. Cost of treatment depends on several factors including the severity of the problem, length of treatment, location, and experience level of your orthodontist. Financing options and payment plans are available in order to make treatment affordable for everybody. We will also help you file insurance claims that can save you thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs.

Length of Treatment And Benefits

The length of your Invisalign treatment depends on several factors. How severely misaligned your teeth are, how many aligner trays you will require and whether or not you will need any additional devices will all affect the final cost of treatment. The average length of treatment lasts 12-15 months, which is on par with braces. If you use a Propel device to stimulate your teeth into shifting faster during treatment, your treatment length could be shorter.

  • Comfort

Invisalign is made of multiple layers of medical-grade plastic with rounded edges for maximum comfort.

  • Invisible

The aligners are virtually invisible so not even your family and friends may know you are wearing them. Feel free to smile for pictures like normal without feeling self-conscious about your teeth.

  • Removable

Because Invisalign is removable there are no dietary restrictions like with braces. Just remove them before each meal or snack. This also makes the aligners easier to clean and several cleaning products and methods are available.
